CHURCH OF THE SOUTHLAND

Church of the Southland in Anaheim’s Food Pantry

Providing food, and providing the power of prayer. Church of the Southland in Anaheim just celebrated its 20th anniversary of joining God in His global redemptive work through the power of the Holy Spirit. They are located near the Phoenix Club and Honda Center in Anaheim and mostly serve the communities of Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana.

When the pandemic started, the Church of Southland’s neighbor Honda Center, held massive food drives that drew in thousands of people in need of food. The food drive came to a halt fairly early in the pandemic, in June of 2020, and that’s when the church organized their own drive-thru food pantry. “We knew we couldn’t be as big as the Honda Center’s food drive, but we knew we could do something,” said Joe Suh, Associate Pastor at Church of the Southland. “On Saturday, July 18, 2020, we held our first drive thru food pantry with a prayer line which has been such a blessing.”

On the second and fourth Saturday of the month, they put together food boxes and prepared foods from Bracken’s Kitchen for the community. They serve on average 180 families at each event.

Year to date, they are proud to be able to serve 3,956 families, and 1,561 volunteers have given their time. Equally important to the church, they’ve converted 341 lives to Jesus.

“The people have been going through a lot. We’ve seen families who have been out of work share that they’ve prayed for jobs that have come through,” said Joe Suh. “Some people spend more people in the prayer line than the food line. They come back week after week to receive prayers.

Church of the Southland distributes free grocery boxes from 9-11 a.m. the second and fourth Saturday of the month. Cars start to line up at 8:30 a.m. They have non-perishable items, fresh eggs, frozen meals and more. If you or someone you know need help or some hope, please stop by.
